Phil ‘n the Blanks frontman Phil Allen sings and plays his guitar all around southern Maine with his band and as a solo artist. Studying music, theatre and opera as a young man, his 5 years of vocal training comes through in tight intonation and dynamic control. He auditioned and won entrance to All State Choir in Connecticut, four years in a row and won second tenor in the whole state during his senior year. He sang in four languages during his classical recital
that year.
Always a traveler, Phil learned to talk to the crowd and improvise melodies while playing the street corners of Key West and New Orleans. Collaborating in numerous bands in the Boston area for 10 years, he continued playing solo on many stages including the prestigious Club Passim in Harvard Square. He recorded his debut album, Time on My Hands at Supersonic Studio in Central Square.
Settling in Raymond in 2006, Phil has made a home for his family of five, continuing to write, record, and play live. Pushing to make a living solely on a musician’s wage, his gratitude comes through in his honest and vulnerable stagecraft and soulful guitar solos. Phil’s originals and joyfully rendered cover songs reflect hard-learned lessons and the joy that comes from a life dedicated to his art.
